LANGUAGES OF THE WORLD
During the Dead Ages, the one thousand years of the Revenaunt Emperor's rule, only one language was permitted: Abarranese. All local languages went underground, although they didn't vanish entirely.
After the Fall of Abarran and the banning of the Revenaunt, the local languages revived somewhat, but Abarranese remained the major and common tongue.
The names of ships and inns and many toponyms are given in their local forms, like Gisterwoud or King's Ship Prinses Milliane.

When the King died in 738, her brother Eonic prince of Dikkurat claimed the throne, because Crown Prince Ghyllander was only 15 at the time and underage. However, fierce Ghyllander subjugated Dikkurat and executed his uncle. Ghyllander II proved his mettle by siring a son, Halfraud IV, in the same year. Since that day people called him Man-Of-Steel. DESCRIPTION OF THE COUNTRIES IN THE WESTERN CONTINENT ANDRADAUN
THE NHAEL
Forke is almost continuously covered with ice and besides a few hamlets, uninhabited.
Stit is the hjarldom of Torril’s father, whose capital is Stitneborg. Here is the second city of the island, Jotnik.
Orm is the main island with the capital Ormthaborg.
The other islands, Bruster, Arask, Mosk, Klein and Groot Ool, are covered with grass in summer and in the six winter months covered in snow. Most settlements are fishing villages.
THE AETHIR ISLANDS
These islands, on the other side of the Daringzee (about 700 miles away), are subject to the King of Nhael, but are mostly autonomous. Here is the Order of Helgran established (the God who Rhidauna calls Dragos) and here are the paladins trained. The main island is Vandhael. The others are Lindhael, Krolle, Holle, Lindisbauen.
OPPER-NOPHAT
Capital is Millituuris. This is the only technically orientated country in a world that runs on magic. Not that it brings them prosperity and happiness, their technical level is too low for that. And as they have renounced the daily use of magic life isn’t very pleasant.
The Kings have created their own cult in life, based around Tallas, the God of Magimechnica, and the King as his son. Anyone with even a bit of mana has to join one of the Technical State Schools at twelve.
Nophat is isolated from the world. There is no contact with other royal courts and nobody knows what exactly is going on in that country.
In the southeast are the Widderen, a vast marshland around Lake Yorgol.
The river that runs to the east from the swamp, the Lorre, joins the larger Ninogh River at Lorrevaal. East of the lake, at the edge of the marshes, are the ruins of Sterrevank, a former magical academy.
NEDER-NOPHAT
Life in Neder-Nophat is even worse than in its southern neighbour. Foreigners are not welcome here. It is a land of bleak fields, marshes, sadness and rot. The infrastructure has been almost entirely destroyed. It hasn’t had a King since the Revenaunt’s, and there aren’t any candidates for the position either.
ROCKATH
This land is the bottom. Once it was ruled by Kings-Elected. The arrival of the Revenaunt, the bitter opposition of the populace and the death of most families that traditionally supplied the king, ended this. No king, no blessings. The gods could not reach the country and in the more than five centuries after the fall of Abarran, Rockath changed into a lifeless country. The remaining people are slaves to one or other cruel ruler. Only the Caravan Clans are still free and move from one robber baron castle to another, always in danger and always hungry. Their 'capital' is Dettarok, where all caravans meet at the spring and autumn equinox.
The dead Ninogh River is de border with Northern Rhidauna.
ZIHAEN
This country is a vast grassland, intersected by the Ran River and its tributaries. The population are nomadic tribes, of whom the Yinno are the most important. They live off their livestock, especially zibul cattle.
Earlier, before the advent of the Revenaunt Emperor, was this whole huge area divided into three powerful principalities. The most important of these was Abarran, in the north. The Prince of Abarran was for generations the most powerful ruler in the western continent. Now only the numerous ruins of the many metropolises, larger than the leading modern cities, bear witness to that former glory. During the fall of Revenaunt, all was destroyed and only the intervention of the Gods turned Zihaen after the Fall of Abarran into the present steppe land. The only elevated point in the country are the huge Ayoo Mountains, backdrop for the old Revenaunt temple, the Owan Abai.
TEREKANDER
Vast pastures, interspersed with forest, a temperate climate with a lot of sunshine. Horses are an important export product; especially the tsenevazers are famous for their speed and endurance. The country also provides excellent timber and builds stout merchant ships.
The country is divided among eight trade princes. Every fourth year one of them takes on the role of Senior Prince, acting as head of state. This role is largely ceremonial.
VAVAUN
Books could be written about this small country. It is a mountain state, with alternating high plains and deep valleys. It has no export products worth mentioning. Its infrastructure is centuries behind the rest of the world. The main purpose of its government is the struggle for power.
Vavaun is a duchy, where the throne is claimed by two families: the Gry and the Ashartes. Currently there is a DeGry on the throne, constantly on the alert for a stab in the back by his DeAsharte opponent.
The only stable influence in the country is the presence of the Gray Order, which manages just about the only temple. Vavaun has one city, Grymaur, and some castles.
OPIT
This is a hot country. The eastern part is frutitful; the west is savannah and the south is largely desert. Major products are cawah, silk, dates, olives and other luxury goods.
The country is a kingdom under the House un-Balhamber. Originally the population was divided into tribes, of whom Un-Jaddara was the oldest. The surabeen (Duke) of the Un-Jaddara (called the Jaddar), is the First Noble the realm.
The northern part is under the administration of the Prince of Mandaba, the younger brother of the current king and crown prince. The southern part is ruled by the Crown from the capital Alunham.
Opit is the homeland of several bloodthirsty kobold tribes, which had be better avoided.
In the far southwest lies Cape Allonqir, the most traditional region on the kingdom.
QEDDISH
The land of the Gul esh Gorn, the Desert of Jewels, of red sand dunes. Queddish was created by a giant stone from the sky. Its impact resulted in a bowl surrounded by high mountains, which is accessible only by a road and some difficult mountain passes. This is Qeddish. The name 'Desert of Jewels' comes from the vast amount of gemstones that are found here. Fortune seekers are strongly advised not to try their luck, since the inhabitants of this realm consider any scavening a hanging matter.
Qeddish consists of five city-states, each under an independent kudar, a city princess (Queddish is a matriarchy). The town closest to the entrance and this to Rhidauna, is Qaunshun.
ORDERLANDEN
Once there were four barbaric states: Stiphet, Batabor, Okinaul and Malend. One of the last Abarran princes (Jesserie's grandfather), subjugated the tribes and made them his vassals. Due to a misunderstanding the Malendi turned at the coming of the Revenaunt against their suzerain of Abarran.
After the expulsion of the Revenaunt the three countries that had fought against him, became Archprincipalities, ruled by an Archprince and defended by a martial order of the Sword Brethern. Malend became a kingdom and was eventually defeated by Rhidauna.
Stiphet, Batabor and western Okinaul form a high mountain range, the Nesten (according to tradition, these tops bore the nests in which the winds were born). East of Okinaul is similar to Malend, with primeval forest. There are important tin mines and rare wood plantations. Especially Stipeth and Batabor consist of the city and not much else.
Between Stiphet and Batabor runs a mountain road over the Hodenffaul Pass, the border between the two kingdoms.
A. STIPHET - City: Carm Aranauvitz, a primitive, old-fashioned place. The patron saint is Aranauvitz Rauthar, the manifestation of the God of Battle Mainal. The town lies in the valley of Carm, on the Horagh River (the upper part of the Yanthe). Their Archprince is also the Landscommander of the local Order.
B. BATABOR – City: Zautan, a grim, walled city built on islands in the Zautanmere. The lake is fed by the Horagh, coming in and going out as a waterfall. The city is only accessible by a long bridge, or by air. Their Landscommander before the present one came to power through a coup and had the Archprince executed.
C. OKINAUL – City: Itrikol. Their Archprincely family died out en de Landscommander became the only power.
ZANZAMAL
This island off the southeast coast is virtually unknown. The few who ventured there, never came back and no one knows exactly how it looks. The only thing ships reported was a coastline made impenetrable by rain forests.
